I just arrived in Phoenix late last night (fortunately I found a direct flight) for a training on how to better utilize Infusionsoft, the software that runs the backbone of my business.

As a way for you and I to get to know one another more intimately, I want to share the story of how I grew up, began creating wealth, and my life changing events that led to my beginning Conscious Millionaire Institute, LLC.

This is my story as told in my new book….
I was twenty-five years old and had just moved into my dream home on Bayshore Boulevard, the Fifth Avenue of Tampa, Florida. The home overlooked Tampa Bay. My Mercedes in the garage welcomed me back from a summer vacation in Europe. It was just as I had dreamed it from the time I was five years old
At that early age I became determined to become a millionaire. My motivation was simple. I never wanted money to be a problem for me as it had often been for my family. In fact, right now as I tell you my story, I can still remember the one day that changed my life.
My family lived out in the country in the central part of Florida. It was a small village of only a few hundred people. Like most of the families in the area, we had a modest lifestyle. Most people got by, but not much more.
My mother was a school teacher. My father farmed and worked in citrus harvesting. Though Dad was entrepreneurial by nature, he always seemed to have a setback at the very moment things looked like they might reap rewards.
One day when I was five I had a major realization. It was more like an epiphany. I ran in the house and looked up at my parents. Then I screamed out in my little boy voice, “When I grow up, I’m going to be a millionaire!” Even now I can remember the look of shock on Mom’s face. She quickly said in a hushed tone, “Don’t tell anyone.”
You see, we were good church- going people and my parent‘s figured anyone who had that much money must be doing something wrong.
But like all little kids, I ignored what they said, told everyone in the neighborhood, and stayed focused on my burning desire to become a millionaire. At five I don’t actually think I knew what a million dollars was, but I figured if I had that much money, everything in my life would be great and I wouldn’t have any problems!
I can remember sketching out floor plans for mansions, though I’d never even been in a one. Still, from that day forward, I focused on my millionaire dream and was determined that nothing would ever stop me or get in my way.
So, there I was at age twenty-five, living on Bayshore Boulevard, the best address in Tampa, Fl. For the first few months, I thought I had “arrived.” But for all my new wealth, I quickly found myself staring vacantly at the water, feeling like something powerfully important was missing from my life.While I had acquired the trappings of success, inside, I didn’t feel that how I was making my money, or what I was doing with my life, really mattered.
Now I look back and realize what was missing. I didn’t have a sense of purpose. There was no real vision to what I was doing. How I was making my money didn’t make any real difference in the world. Worse, nothing in my life felt authentic or right for me.
I no longer felt passionate about anything, and deeply yearned to be connected to something bigger. I wanted to find a direction that would allow me to make the millions I desired, while also providing the fulfillment I was seeking.
I wanted financial freedom, but I also needed freedom inside – the inner peace that comes with true fulfillment.
For the next twenty years, I embarked on a quest, attending personal development courses, spiritual retreats, and seminars on how to make money.
Ultimately, I decided to sell our family companies and pursue a new life. Initially a desire to travel sent me on long road trips, including a four-month, 30,000 mile road trip through Canada and parts of the United States. I traveled the world, learned to meditate at a Buddhist monastery, and participated in the work-study program at Esalen – a personal development center on the Big Sur coast of California.
Throughout these travels I contemplated my life, all that I had learned, and asked myself what was my bigger vision for how I could make a difference for others and our world.
What I discovered is an answer for making money in a way that aligns with my sense of purpose, values, and my drive to live with integrity.
I realized the approach I had developed could also help other entrepreneurs build companies that achieve a higher purpose while also creating high profits and wealth. This was the start of the Conscious Millionaire Institute, LLC.
