In January I attended the New Media Expo, NMX, in Las Vegas. Ok, I have to admit I went two days ahead of time and spent time at the Bellagio – yes, I had an amazing time. On the personal side I had exceptional dinners at Le Cirque and Yellowtail and saw both “O” and “Love” shows by Cirque Du Soleil. Everyone needs play time 🙂
There were upwards of 1,000 people at the expo and I had the great fortune of meeting some incredible people and starting new friendships. In fact a mastermind evolved out of several associations. We just began our new mastermind last Friday. That speaks to the quality of entrepreneurs in attendance.
Guy Kawasaki spoke and we each received a Kindle version of his new book “A P E” – find it on Amazon http://amzn.to/XGZbJl It’s a 300 page book on how to write, self-publish, and market your book. If you are considering writing a book or are at any phase of writing and self-publishing, I highly recommend his new book.
This is THE event for people who blog, podcast, utilize video online or in any way utilize the numerous forms of new media and social media online. The quality of people in attendance was very high – many notable gurus in the space.
The event was organized around key notes in the morning and afternoon with breakout sessions in between. Then there were the parties every night. Here are just a few of the great folks I met at the event:
Antonio Centeno, founder of http://www.RealMenRealStyle.com. I met him through Jamie Tardy who I was introduced to at the Blog World (the prior name for NMX) in New York last June 2012. She has http://www.EventualMillionaire.com and did an interview of me which is currently available on itunes. She is now writing her first book for release later this year or 2014. Watch for it – she’s great.
John Cocoran is an attorney who works with small business owners and is founder of http://www.smartbusinessrevolution.com which is a consultancy that works with small business owners to help them build their businesses. As I am also an attorney, we developed a fast bond. He’s a great guy. Check out his site – he has a free video course for entrepreneurs.
Thanh Pham made it across the ocean from Asia. We had a great conversation about Office Auto Pilot, which I am switching to. He specializes in efficiency and productivity http://www.asianefficiency.com
Another great guy was Sam Silverstein, CSP, who is a speaker focused on accountability. His brand is No More Excuses. We had dinner the first night at a gathering of people from NSA (National Speaker’s Association). Also at the table was Mike Domitrz who has Date Safe Project, a non-profit he started because his sister was raped in college. He speaks to companies as well as the armed forces overseas http://www.DateSafeProject.org
At the same dinner was an amazing and captivating woman, Pat Fripp, CSP, CPAE. She graced the cover of the January 2013 NSA Magazine. Pat lives in San Francisco and was a woman of great style and insight. We had an enjoyable chat http://www.fripp.com
And to round off that dinner was Dan Janal, who I have known for years. He has PR Leads Plus, http://www.prleads.com Also, Gina Carr “The Tribe Builder” http://www.ginacarr.com who is also from Tampa and the woman who invited me to dinner. She is speaking on Feb 16 at the NSA Central Florida http://www.nsacentralflorida.com on social media.
David Winchell is an interesting guy who has combined money and golfing for this site The Money Spot http://www.themon eyspotonline.com. David did a spontaneous 15 minute interview of me for his podcast. I spoke on how to trade (yes, I also trade), the mindset involved and how to manage risk.
An amazing group is We-Care.com http://www.we-care.com. Dylan Nord and I spoke about his company and I visited their site several times. He has a company that partners with sellers which offer their products online. Then non-profits can send their donors to purchase them and a portion of that goes to We-Care.com. They then divide it 50-50 with the non-profit. So everyone wins. Great concept.
There were a number of social media experts. One who caught my eye was Cynthia Seymour “Social Media Butterfly” who lives in Miami and does online video shows http://www.SeymourResults.com and to round out just some of the people I met was Randal Humburg of LiveLabs. This company builds reality sets for corporations who then shoot videos and commercials in them http://www.livelabs.is
I had a great time. As I am an avid note taker, I came how with great notes and am ready to hire a new marketing assistant and put many of them into action. I’m already looking forward to NMX 2014!!!
