J V Crum, III, Conscious Millionaire Coach, here with small business advice on how to grow your business by creating a sense of community among your people.  Here are 3 Top Strategies for building a community based business….

Small Business Coaching

As a small business coach, I’ve found a number of major differences between businesses that never seem to get traction and those that thrive and make millions. Today my small business advice is about building a sense of community among your people.

How do you know when you have a community?

When people are primarily focused on themselves, how “I” get ahead, how “I” get recognized, you have an “I” based company. However when your people, and this includes you as the business owner, think, feel, and see the business based on the value each of you give to the community, then you have moved into a community based business. Read on for small business advice on how to build your community.

Here are 3 strategies for building a community based business:

1.       Select people to work in your business based on a value of others winning and working together for the common good. As a small business coach, I’ve found that it is best to hire this type of fit, or orientation,

2.       Then throughout their career with your business, engage them in group process designed to develop a deep connection with your company vision and create an inner passion for seeing it achieved. Involve each employee, from front line to top management, in a group process of developing strategies for achieving your business vision.

3.       As a small business coach, I also find that when you actively engage your people in leadership development that is focused on their “conscious development,”  you get significantly greater growth and ROI on your investment in your team. This is entrepreneurial training that is focused on each person developing a higher state of conscious awareness, one that moves beyond “ego” self to a sense of community and shared goals and journey.

  1. There are nuances to building community at work. For example, if you’re an accountant, why not pro-bono for a cause picked by your employees? How can you engage in their community outside of “work”? Caring goes beyond a bigger paycheck. Seems silly, but remembering a birthday (w/ a cupcake and a candle – no party necessary) goes a long way. As you work toward the pieces JV describes above (community in the business), you can for nearly free engage in your employees’ community outside the business.
