Dad’s 90th Christmas
Thanks to everyone who has asked about my Dad who is 90. He had a stroke on Dec 17th, 2010 and has been in long term rehabilitation since then. February 7th he was finally able to come home for an evening to have Christmas Dinner…..

My mother’s family and Dad had Christmas dinner the evening of February 7 at his home. The day before, Dad and I made Dad’s traditional cornbread dressing.
Christmas occurs whenever family can come together to celebrate life and being with one another. We left up the Christmas tree and all the decorations until Dad was able to celebrate Christmas. They were taken down two days later.
Here are some photos of this year’s Christmas, Starting with Christmas Day, December 25th 2010 in the rehabilitation center and then at Dad’s home on February 7th, 2011.
Dad is a total FLORIDA GATOR. Because it was already clear that Dad was going to need to be in rehab for a long period of time, I bought him an orange Florida Gator blanked and a blue Florida Gator Pillow. He has kept them on his bed from that dad forward.
Dad and I after he opened a gift.
I brought Dad some champagne and we celebrated New Year’s Eve. He is wearing a New Year Crown on this head.
Sometimes I am able to take Dad out for dinner or lunch. Here he is in his Gator Jacket at his club.
Christmas Tree – on February 7th 2011
Dad, in his Gator Jacket, at the Christmas Table, Feb 7, with my cousin, Nancy, to his right. Tommy’s, a smoke house restaurant, which usually does our smoked turkey for Christmas, loves Dad so they fixed the turkey, green beans, home-made potatoes, then we also had Dad’s cornbread dressing that Dad and I made (I cut, chopped, mixed, and Dad supervised with ideas), and my Aunt Eleanor’s pecan pie (she makes the best pecan pie in the world. I grew up having her pecan pie at Thanksgiving and Christmas.)
A larger view of the table. My aunt Eleanor is on the far right of the photo.
In the living room – the fireplace.
Update: As of February 28, 2011, Dad is still in the rehab center and needs 24/7 skilled nursing care. He is having difficulties with low blood pressure and memory. I spend about 10 hours a day with him to share this journey together.
