ROSS HAMILTON: ENTREPRENEUR OF THE YEAR 2011 NOMINEE
I caught up with Ross this past week and asked him some questions. I’ll be blogging about those answers as well as statements he provided as one of the five nominees for Emerging Entrepreneur.
What is Ross’s passion that drives him forward as an entrepreneur? He likes to complete tasks that others think are impossible. He started with no capital and no online experience and set out to create a viral social business – and created the top socially driven investment marketplace in the world! Now that’s drive and passion!
SMALL BUSINESS COACH: MARKETING IDEAS
As a small business coach, I know how important marketing ideas are. I got Ross to open up and share his best marketing idea! Here it is: “to build a core customer base who knows I care about their success and express that every chance I get.” Ross told me this has been so successful because in the prior boom, no one really cared about customers because there were so many. Now, with fewer customers to go around, caring about your customer becomes your real marketing.
SMALL BUSINESS COACH: ADVICE TO START UPS
Now is a great time to start your business. Do what you love. And, work for another company in the field first to learn the ropes, then start your own business. “The real joy is the journey.” And, don’t measure success just in dollars.

Ross has never lost an employee. Why? They know they are part of a bigger cause, one of helping the economy recover! Ross allows employees to choose their own hours, total flex hours, and everyone can work from their own location. Like the beach, if that’s what they wanted.
