This blog is a continuation of the NLP Business Coaching yesterday on NLP Patterns. In this blog, I will focus on deconstructing (consciously noticing a person’s patterns) patterns. This involves three areas.
1. Becoming conscious of the specific order (sequence) in which a person processes information.
2. Becoming conscious of the specific modalities (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) that a person is utilizing.
3. Becoming conscious of how to utilize a person’s patterns to influence a sales decision.
Small Business NLP Coaching
In this blog, I am going to address #1 above, becoming conscious of the specific order in which a person processes information. When you ask a person a decision level sales question, such as “remember a time when you made a purchase product or service you are still happy with,” take them back in time to that moment.
How?
Ask the person to remember the time they made their decision. Then walk them through It , step by step.
Ask:
“What did you do first – did you see something inside, say/hear something, have a sensation in your body?”

Continue this process. Step by step. Take notes as you go.
Then ask for a second time they purchased a product or service they are still happy with. Use the same technique of getting the person to remember their steps.
Now ask for a third time and record their pattern. The order for each of these are their NLP sequence for each purchase decision.
I’ve found that it takes at least 3 times of doing something in the same or similar manner to have the beginning of what is a pattern. That is why it is important that you elicit at least three separate purchase decision sequences.
Now look at what the three sequences have in common. The more they are the same, the more you can rely on this as a possible pattern.
