Hello entrepreneurs,

I was preparing ideas for a speech I am giving Friday and asked myself what are the three decisions that determine business success. The answer that came to me was immediate and clear.

First, it is the decision to provide products and services that transform your customer.

Second, it is the decision to constantly grow the people on your team so they can more fully contribute to your company.

Third, it is the decision to transform your customer and grow your people in ways that directly lead to a strong ROI, return on your invested dollar.

And, do each of these in a way that can be directly measured.

The most powerful companies, the ones that both have enduring strength and sustainable profits and financial growth, have this in common. They have a bigger reason for being in business than making money.

There are various ways to think about this. They include: achieving a greater good, having a higher purpose, or making a transformational difference for your customer. While these are all slightly different ways to think about the bigger purpose for your business, what they all convey is an uncompromising approach to business that puts your customer first.

In short, they all express a business philosophy and commitment that is “customer-centric”.

There is an important, and significant, distinction between asking “How do I get my customers to buy more?” and “How can I add such massive value to my customers that they will be eager to and want to buy more?”
